The Bra Boys are a group of guys that surf the beaches in Sydney’s East. They are centered in the Sydney suburb of Maroubra. The group began as a small surfer club in the 1960s. Named after the suburb Maroubra and not the Board Riders Association as some people may think. Members of the group often tattoo “Bra Boys” and Maroubra’s post code “2035″ on their backs. There is a documentary on Australian Surfing culture called “Bra Boys” that premiered in Sydney, and was released on the 15 March 2007. It details a story of the Bra Boys from the viewpoint of the group, particularly the Abberton brothers. Well known actor Russel Crowe provided narration and it is awesome.

Bondi Beach is an Australian icon and one of the worlds most famous surf beaches. Being the closest beach to the city (only 8km) it is a popular relief for Sydneysiders looking to spend their weekend basking in the sun.

Topless sunbathing (or as the locals know it - sunbaking) and swimming are common place, and the standards of dress are almost as relaxed in the many cafes and restaurants, T-shirts, shorts and thongs (Sandals) are the usual attire. Read more
